A wide and detailed book on Earth´s history is buried in the deepest part of the oceans, within hundreds of meters of sediment accumulated over millions of years. Each layer of sediment tells us one chapter of our Planet´s evolution. To a doctor scanning a human body, we use a parametric echosounder system penetrating the sediment up to 150 m below seafloor. This radiography of the seabed reveals its inner structure and morphology, helping us to better understand the sedimentary environment, as well as the recent tectonic activity. This is of primary importance around Antarctica, a place which has yet to reveal many of its mysteries!
